This article is about an earthquake and my feelings.
I want you to know before you read it so that you don’t feel uncomfortable.
February 6, 2023. On this date, a lot has faded. I lost the will and the strength to work in my atelier. I think I was ashamed to have a good time when I felt better. In the first months, I spent all my free time scanning the diaries I wrote and transferring them to digital. And the sentence I heard during the news kept repeating in my mind: “We can’t reach them because there is no light.”
On the day, there were earthquakes in Antakya. And people have not even reached their most basic needs, which are far from the technologies we are proud of. One of these needs was light. Yes, light. For days, weeks… Even after the voices under the rubble fell silent, they could not reach. I’ve had this thought in the back of my mind for months. Because this was the level where we were stuck before we had access to a lot of the equipment needed to save lives.
I think what I shared here is just one of the steps I needed to take to heal. There were earthquakes I saw in Antakya in my childhood. I have known this cityโs history of destruction. Also know that some of the shores where I learnt to swim were once a city. Because of fields in which I graduated and memories, I always keep emergency bags ready at home. What I want to share in this post is one of the whistles I designed to use in these bags.
The whistle can also be used as a flashlight. It consists of a ready-made circuit board called Lilypad, two separate LEDs, and switches. You can obtain the body using a 3D printer and assemble the circuit. You can access the documentation containing the 3D model, circuit diagram, and production steps via the Patreon link below. I’m also sharing the video below to help you with the assembly.
My mind still walks around the streets that no longer exist in the city where I grew up, and I hope you never have to feel the need for a device like this.
